Android Gingerbread Operating System
![]() The LG Marquee runs the Android 2.3 operating system (dubbed Gingerbread)--the fastest version of Android available for smartphones yet. It features a cleaner, more refined interface with new icons, improved top notification bar, and more intuitive navigation. Multitasking in Gingerbread allows you the ability to run more than one app at a time. If you're playing a game, you can easily switch to an incoming e-mail and then switch back to the game without losing your place. And like the previous version of Android ("Froyo"), Gingerbread provides support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for access to the full Web. The onscreen keyboard makes it easier to type thanks to additional spacing between the keys and larger font sizes. And the more you use the keyboard, the easier typing will be as the enhanced suggest feature records previous input history to make better suggestions. The Marquee also brings one-touch access to the popular Google mobile services you use every day. It also provides easy access to both personal and corporate e-mail, calendars, and contacts supported by Exchange Server and Gmail. And through Android Market, you'll get access to thousands of useful applications, widgets, and fun games to download and install on your phone, with many more apps being added every day. | Google Integration

Those looking for a great Android phone that won't break the bank.
This is the LG Marquee LS855, also known as the Optimus Black P970
WHAT THIS PHONE DOES NOT HAVE:
It does not have the largest screen on the market
It is not a dual core
It is not a 4G data phone
It does not have a qHD screen (960x540)
WHAT IT DOES HAVE:
Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread OS (latest version)
NOVA 4.0 inch (800x480) LCD screen (LG's answer to Samsung AMOLED and iPhone IPS)
1Ghz single core processor
512Mb RAM with a 2GB SDHC card (up to 32GB capable SDHC card)
Customizable hard key (by volume) Can set to whatever program you want, default is camera
The first thing you will notice is how incredibly light and thin this phone is. The very next thing you will notice is how bright the screen is. This phone is gorgeous but comes with one flaw and that is finger prints not just on the screen as expected but on the high gloss polished black chrome back, see uploaded pics. This phone is so light and thin tho i put a TPU case on without feeling like I'm holding a 1989 bag phone. (maybe some of you remember those phones). this takes care of protecting the phones back. TPU cases are a one piece flexible rubberized plastic that is easy to put on and remove.

PERFORMACE:
I have the family plan with Sprint and have in use the HTC EVO 3D and Samsung Epic 4G Touch, (Galaxy S2) so can compare this phone against the high end units. Both those phones are dual core, 1GB RAM, 4G Data, qHD screen on the HTC with the Samsung having the 4.5 inch super AMOLED 800x480 screen. The LG Marquee is a great phone and serves its purpose well. I actually don't live in a 4G area (Indiana) so can't experience this service with the other phones. The dual core phones are somewhat faster but only marginally and barely make a difference even with double the ram. The LG NOVA screen is far better than the HTC and except for the over-vivid colors of the Samsung is even brighter making it more visible in the great outdoors. The 4 inch screen of the LG Marquee is perfect and the smaller resolution is fine. The LG Marquee has Sprints ID. There is an ICON in the tray that you cannot delete. Sprint ID is an application simular to HTC's old Sense 2.0 where you can creat different Home Screem Themes. It lets you add programs and shortcuts according to themes such as work, play, travel, media. You switch between these home screen themes as desired. I have mixed feelings about its benefits and would delete it if I could.
This phone is very light and perfect pocket size. If you really don't need 4G Data, this phone keeps up with the best of them. The screen is super bright and with the NOVA LCD and Gingerbread the battery lasts all day without a charge.
SIDE BAR
MORE ABOUT NOVA/AMOLED/IPS SCREENS:
If you really want a super bright screen that won't wash out in direct sunlight and or drain the battery than you want a phone with an IPS screen (Apple), a AMOLED screen (Samsung) or a NOVA screen (LG).
Without getting too technical, (there are many technical reviews on these screens just Google), here is the skinny. IPS screens give you rich colors and extreme viewing angles unlike traditional LCD screens that wash out and change colors at severe angles. AMOLED screens use organic LED's that draw less electrical current and give rich colors. One of the biggest advantages of AMOLED's are when you have a black background the LEDS are off giving a true black and not drawing electrical current. The LG NOVA screen is somewhere in between AMOLED and IPS. You have great viewing angles like an IPS and super bright vivid colors like the AMOLED but not the contrast. HTC has not gotten onboard yet with a good screen. They still use traditional LCD's that limit viewing angles, wash out colors and drain batteries.
Pixel density is another hot topic. cell phone screens come either 480x800 pixels or 540x960 (quarter hi def). Keep in mind that the more pixels you pack in a screen the more information that will be displayed and the smaller text and icons appear. In a 4.3 inch LCD phone screen with a qHD screen the Icons are smaller and text very tiny, while this gives more detail and sharper more crisp images it can strain the eyes trying focus on those micro images. High density pixels on larger screens make sense but on these small 4 inch screens the difference is marginal.
MORE ABOUT SDHC memory cards:
New phones now have the capabilities of using up to 32GB data SDHC cards (Secure Digital High Capacity). In my experiences I have learned that higher class ratings 6 or above, while are great for cameras and video recorders are not so great in cell phones. The class rating is suppose to be a standard in which data is written to the card, i.e. the higher the rating the faster data is written. Data cards that have a class rating of 6 or higher have given problems in cell phones. I believe the problem lies more in the Android OS than the data card itself. In the future I'm sure faster cards will work great but for now my experience in reliability is firmly in the class 2 or class 4 cards. These cards are plenty fast for any data movement in your Android and 100% reliable. I have read that some people have gotten class 10 cards to work in their Android phone but it takes finessing and the benefit is not substantial enough to mess with plus these data cards are far more expensive.
